Time to revolutionize your makeup bag
Last I checked, we were the ones parading around with ox blood colored lips and shimmery highlighted cheeks for our own pleasure; so why do our furry friends have to pay the price for us to look our best?
Animal testing has a been around for centuries and is a process used by makeup giants to make sure their products are fit for human consumption by patch testing on shaved skin and dropping product into the eyes of animals to test for severe allergic reactions, and these are only to name a few of the cruel practices. Even though there are multiple non-animal testing practices available, most corporations still rely on the archaic method to cut their testing expenses. Some countries like India, Australia and parts of the European Union have banned animal testing and the sale of products from corporations that still adopt these practices which is a step in the right direction.
Here at TheLazyGirlClub, we take steps to encourage you to adopt a more green approach to daily living and that should also stem into your consumer habits which is why we felt so strongly about compiling a list for you lovely ladies to educate you about the Clicks and Dischem shelf favorites that we buy without even knowing what we are supporting with our hard-earned Rands.
Here are some brands to avoid:
Benefit Cosmetics
Maybelline
Clinique
Bobbi Brown
MAC
Revlon
Rimmel
Some brands are owned by parent companies that still adopt animal testing practices- this is the case for Clinique, Bobbi Brown and MAC as they are owned by Estee Lauder who unfortunately pay for testing on animals in laboratories in China. So while these brands claim to be cruelty-free, their affiliation with their parent company unfortunately does not make them a true cruelty-free brand.
Approved cruelty-free brands:
LA Girl
Catrice Cosmetics
Essence Cosmetics
Wet n Wild
Nyx
Some of our favorite swops:
We swapped our Maybelline mascara for this Essence Cosmetics bad boy and what's even better is that it's from their vegan range of products :)
Another vegan product that we love because of the added spf factor but Catrice is a definite yes for foundation, concealers, setting powders and sprays.
Swop your MAC lipstick for the Nyx gloss, I promise you won't be disappointed.
I know how difficult it is to shy away from the cult classics like MAC, NARS and Benefit but at the end of the day supporting a brand that chooses to stick to their guns and test on animals despite there being other non-animal testing methods is unacceptable and innocent furry beings shouldn't have to pay the price for our superficial need to look beautiful under a canvas of makeup. With that being said be wise with how you choose to spend your money as you, the consumer, have all the power in the caliber of products you decide to support. Keep conscience clean and support the Beauty without Bunnies campaign started by PETA by checking your products with their PETA-approved list.
Time to rethink your makeup bag ladies!
